Founders and Coders is a 18 week full time peer-led web development bootcamp in London
focusing on Javascript and the fundamentals of front and backend development. This
course has taught me a lot from how to work on projects following agile methodologies,
test-driven-development as well as design and project management in which I was able to
explore roles of being a UX lead and a scrum master. All valuable skills in which I’m
eager to develop further and carry forward into my career.
During the first half
of
the
course, each week consisted of a 2-day project carried out in teams of 4 that was
dedicated to the following topics: Version control and Accessibility, Testing, Apis,
Node, Database, Authentication and Express. Then the second half of the course was split
into two larger 3 week projects one in which was a client project for a Tech for Better
cause.
After leaving university I was keen on getting stuck in the “real world”, this being my first full-time and long-term job I was able to experience various aspects of how a business is run from the inside out. With Axel Arigato being a relatively young yet rapidly growing retail brand, I was able to meet the CEO and Head Designer who were able to give me great insight of how the company came about to how products are initially mocked up and designed to how they get to the shop floor. From this experience I was able to obtain many interpersonal skills that has helped me a lot in how to handle different types of clients in different situations whilst working with a team.
Through not feeling content with the path i’ve taken and the course I’ve chosen I decided to make the tough decision to drop out of university and essentially start again from scratch not knowing exactly what i’ll be doing, it was during this time that I began taking interest in coding through dabbling in blogs and wanting to create something of my own.
